Kate Gorney

Kate is an American artist based in New York City.

Working at the intersection of poetry, printmaking, sculpture, video, and installation, Gorney’s practice critically engages ideas of the ephemeral versus the eternal.  To house her work she often creates atmospheres of serenity and meditation.  As with Once Broken, Gorney arranges objects in order to conjure memory, and develops three-dimensional settings for her verses that challenge ideas of domesticity and space.  Viewers are often encouraged to engage with these vessels of memory as their curiosity moves them.  In this way rooms are imbued with meaning and arranged as a representational journey from desire to acceptance and toward a new paradigm.

She draws inspiration from surrealism as well as her background in ballet & modern dance and a continuing flirtation with concepts of movement.
